[Steam] Core Update, Cinematic Cameras & Future Roadmap
Shards of the Library - Unified Update & Developer Notes
Hello, this is Joey, the developer of Shards of the Library. I would like to share our recent core system balancing, visual overhauls, localization updates, and future development plans with the Steam community.

- Discover rich information, ranging from the Lorebook and Character Dictionary to the Item DB and detailed patch notes.
🛠️ Major Updates
- Stamina System Overhaul: Stamina consumption during weapon attacks has been increased. Stamina passive skills have been applied, and cost balancing (ranging from 0.1 to 1) has been carefully adjusted.
- Equipment & Items: A new foundational framework for class-specific equipment has been established. We are also replacing item meshes (such as food items) to capture a true classic RPG aesthetic.
- Zodiac System Integration: Unique buffs and effects corresponding to each character’s Zodiac sign have now been integrated into the game.
🎬 Visuals & Audio
- Cinematic Sequences Added: We have successfully implemented a cinematic camera sequence that triggers the first time a player enters any map (level), along with logic to restrict player movement during the cutscene.
- Character & UI Polishing: The main menu layout has been revamped. We are currently polishing character appearances, starting with male characters (fixing hair CC bugs, adding detailed facial features, and adjusting color palettes).
- Sound & Effects: Missing skill sound effects have been added, and the visual effects when traveling through portals have been significantly improved.
💬 Localization & Dialogue
- Massive Localization Update: We’ve pushed a large-scale text translation patch that naturally distinguishes between polite and casual speech based on each character’s MBTI and personality.
- Affection-Based Custom Dialogue: We’ve added hundreds of detailed dialogue scripts for all 44 characters, covering themes of friendship, romance, and playful banter depending on your relationship level, bringing each character to life.
🚨 Known Issues
- 2D Map Movement Bug: We’ve identified an issue where map movement occasionally becomes unresponsive in the 2D viewport state. We are investigating the cause and will deploy a hotfix as soon as possible.
📝 Developer Notes
- UI/UX Studies & Application: The summer semester has begun, and I am currently taking a course on UI/UX design. Please look forward to seeing how the user experience and design patterns I learn will be seamlessly integrated into the game’s interface.
- Regular Update Schedule: To ensure more systematic and in-depth development, I plan to release regular updates on the first Wednesday of every month.
- World-Building Expansion: This game is more than just a single project; it is being developed with the ultimate goal of “world-building expansion,” serving as the foundation for my future personal games. Through our newly revamped developer site, I will continue to unfold more lore and stories.
